Over the Rainbow: A Harmonious Fusion of Industrial and Neoclassical Styles

Creating a Wealth of Sensory and Beauty User Experience

This single-story residential design, aptly named "Over the Rainbow," showcases the impeccable talent of designer Weng Jo-Jung in harmoniously blending industrial and neoclassical styles. With careful consideration of the owners' preferences, this interior design project successfully reconciles the contrasting aesthetics to create a space that is refined, elegant, and visually stunning.

The key challenge in this project was to find a way to merge the masculine industrial style favored by the male owner with the elegant neoclassical style preferred by the female owner. Through the skillful use of different color renderings, material variations, classic lines, and interior decoration vocabulary, Weng Jo-Jung was able to create a cohesive and visually captivating design.

The entrance sets the tone for the entire space, with patterned tiles and waterproof wood floors symbolizing the transition between the two styles. Warm gray tones in the high cabinet columns seamlessly flow into the living room, enhancing the aesthetic coherence. To accommodate the owners' pets, special paints were used on the walls, ensuring durability and longevity.

With a total area of 176 square meters, this design optimizes space allocation to meet the owners' needs. The layout includes a spacious entryway, a transparent and unrestricted public domain, a complete dining and kitchen area, and well-defined private sections. The master bedroom and another bedroom are thoughtfully designed to embody modernity, functionality, and a strong sense of design and humanity.

The study room, adjacent to the living room, shares a lighting surface, while black geometric cabinets against the wall add a touch of wit and practicality. The use of iron and glass partitions instead of solid walls strikes a balance between transparency and privacy, incorporating the right amount of industrial vocabulary.

One of the notable features of this design is the TV wall, which appears plain and neat, with a built-in cabinet accessible from the study. To ensure stability, the study utilizes double-opening metal sliding doors with upper rails, reinforced with special buffer hardware. The doors are divided into six equal parts by frame lines, with each opening expanding the width of one door, while the remaining half overlaps on the fixing sheet, adding further stability.

The living room and master bedroom are adorned with a calm dark blue tone, creating a sense of depth and unity throughout the space. Three-dimensional facades blend harmoniously with clean beige or low-key grayscale, complementing the simplified classical lines of the background.

Completed in May 2020 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, "Over the Rainbow" is a testament to Weng Jo-Jung's meticulous attention to detail and creative problem-solving. This exceptional design has garnered recognition, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, technical skill, and resourcefulness, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
